About Us

The Boston Area Talent Sourcing Association (BATSA) is a volunteer-led organization whose mission is to promote Sourcing as a respected function and career path within recruiting, competitive intelligence and other industries, teach tricks of the trade to aspiring professionals, and encourage interaction among Sourcing practitioners and leaders to foster dissemination of best practices in the greater Boston area (particularly MA, NH and RI) and those participating virtually from around the world.

Our scope
To educate sourcers, recruiters and marketers on all things sourcing (mostly matching the Wikipedia definition), including name-generation research through online, phone and offline methods, market and competitive intelligence, recruitment marketing (including employment branding, programmatic advertising and growth hacking) and anything else that helps find and engage new talent leads who wouldn't naturally apply for an organization's jobs on their own.

How we do this
Primarily through subject matter expert and peer-to-peer interaction, including physical events, webinars and tool-sharing (the last primarily through our social media channels).

Free on purpose
Also important to BATSA is that an aspiring sourcer's financial situation should not be an impediment to learning, since many are individual contributors and/or lack the stability of a competitive full-time salary. As such, all our events are free to attendees, thanks to our sponsors.

If you want to make the drive up from further away for one of our physical events or participate virtually via live stream (when available), you'll still be welcome, and/or attend our webinars in between the live events! Get on our distribution list if you aren't already (and tell your sourcing/recruiting colleagues to do likewise!).

Glenn Gutmacher

CEO and Co-Founder
After managing an 8-person diversity sourcing team at State Street Corporation (world's #2 custody bank), he developed a global central sourcing function for the company, based primarily out of India from 2018-2019. From 2010-15, he led an online-focused offshore team and a junior onshore team focused on front-end candidate pipelining to support North America Recruiting at Avanade, a $3 billion IT consulting firm owned by Accenture and Microsoft. In 1997, Glenn created one of the recruiting industry's first Internet sourcing seminars, later expanded as Recruiting-Online.com, training recruiters and sourcers from hundreds of companies ranging from the Fortune 500 to small staffing firms. Glenn was a senior Internet researcher for Microsoft for 3+ years, focusing on competitive intelligence and proactive international sourcing following two years starting sourcing at Getronics North America where his work contributed meaningfully to two finalist nominations in 2005's ERE’s Excellence Awards. In between Avanade and Microsoft, he worked full time with Shally Steckerl, consulting recruiting and sourcing teams at corporations and recruiting firms. Glenn entered the recruiting field in 1996 by founding one of the first newspaper-owned regional job boards, JobSmart, which won the industry’s two most prestigious awards in 1998: the EPpy Award (Editor & Publisher) and the Digital Edge Award (Newspaper Assn. of America). He was the official Internet recruiting certification instructor in 2000 for SHRM's Northeast Human Resources Association (NEHRA), in 2001 for the Boston Herald's Jobfind.com, and in 2002 for the Boston Globe's BostonWorks.
